English Language Learners (ELL) Manager

Job Description:
Works under the direction of the curriculum director and building principals, to coordinate academic, social and emotional support for English Language Learner (ELL) students with principals, school counselors/social workers, teachers, parents, community resources and volunteers to ensure that students have equal access to a high-quality education and the opportunity to achieve their full academic potential.

The ELL manager is one of the first contacts a new family has with the school and is expected to act in such a manner as to make the first impression a positive one. It is imperative that the person employed in this position display acceptable professional and ethical standards at all times. These expectations include: confidentiality, courtesy, cooperation, positive attitude, reliability, punctuality, accuracy, efficiency and timeliness. The ELL manager shall represent the district in a positive way at all times.

Responsibilities:
Meet with teachers, principals and counselors/social workers to determine student needs
- Conduct monthly team meetings to track the progress of each ELL student
- Act as liaison between classroom and home to communicate student progress
- Conduct regular needs assessments that drives individual educational plans
. Conduct WAPT screenings upon student enrollment
. Proctor WIDA spring assessments
- Works with the building staff to coordinate timely targeted intervention to identified students across grade levels
- Develop professional development for school staff on the challenges (of and for)
ELL students
- Research best practices and communicate those to building instructional staff
Meet with parents and students soon after enrolling to:
- Explain manager role
- Explain resources available
- Determine parental involvement
- Determine parental expectations of school
- Explain school expectations of parents and student
Serve as the Rosetta Stone consultant to students, teachers, parents and administrators
- Set up students and their families on Rosetta Stone
- Encourage parents to speak English in the home
- Encourage students to work on Rosetta Stone at home
Research available local resources such as tutors, volunteers, etc.
Encourage student and family involvement in school clubs and activities

Qualifications / Skills:
- Minimum Associates degree; Bachelors in Education preferable
- Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students,staff and parents
- Experience working closely with adults and children
- Exceptional collaboration skills along with a positive attitude
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals and groups of students, staff, and the general public
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Ability to comprehend data and apply it to create appropriate instructional interventions
- Strong organizational skills
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Computer skills in creating documents, using email, Google calendar, and browsing the internet
- Such other qualifications and skills as the curriculum director may find appropriate and acceptable

Work Schedule:
Not more than 40 hours per week and not to exceed 800 hours for the year running from July 1 thru June 30. Majority of work time is during the school year but will require some hours during the summer and after the school day. A time sheet must be turned in every two weeks.

Salary:
$12,000 annually

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to travel to other buildings is required. The position requires the individual to sometimes work irregular or extended work hours and meet multiple demands from several people. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
